Steel FAQ's

Questions about steel

These answers reflect how Normas Company supports steel buyers in the Kurdistan Region of Iraq and on cross-border projects: grades, documentation, cutting, delivery, and typical commercial practice. For a binding offer, always send your list or drawings to the contact desk.

  • What details do you need to quote steel or plate?

Send your bill of quantities or a short list: grade (for example S275 / S355, or stainless 304 / 316), dimensions (thickness × width × length for plate; section designation for beams), quantity, required standard (EN / ASTM where applicable), and delivery site or city. If you have drawings, attach the structural steel schedule or relevant extracts — that lets us align availability and alternatives quickly.

  • Do you provide mill test certificates (MTC) and traceability?

Yes. For each heat or batch we work to supply documentation consistent with the mill and the standard you specified — typically including chemical composition and mechanical results where required by your contract. Keep your purchase reference on all correspondence so we can match releases to your project file without delay.

  • What is the difference between carbon steel and stainless steel?

Carbon steel is iron with carbon and small amounts of other elements; it is strong and economical for structures and pressure parts, and is usually protected by paint or galvanizing when exposed to weather. Stainless steel adds chromium (and often nickel or molybdenum) for a passive layer that resists rust — ideal for food, chemical, and façade applications. We supply both families; the right choice follows your environment, code, and fabricator’s welding procedure.

  • Can you supply cut-to-length bar, plate blanks, or bundles for our pour sequence?

Where equipment and stock allow, we coordinate cutting and bundling to your list so the yard receives lengths in the order you will fix. Share tolerances, tagging rules, and any crane or truck limits at the gate — we align strapping and bundle weights to safe handling on site.

  • How does delivery work within the Kurdistan Region of Iraq?

Normas is based in Zakho on Ibrahim Al-Khalil Road, close to major haulage routes. We schedule trucks with your site contact, confirm offload hours, and aim for clear communication on delays at borders or checkpoints. For distant governorates, lead time may include consolidation — we quote realistic windows up front.

  • Which structural and plate grades do you most often supply?

Demand varies by project, but we regularly work with common structural grades for rolled sections and merchant bar, carbon plate for tanks and bases, rebar in standard diameters, and stainless grades such as 304 and 316 for services and envelopes. If your specification names a less common grade, send it early — we will confirm mill route or suggest an approved equivalent with your engineer.

  • What lead time should we expect on a typical steel order?

Lead time depends on stock, mill booking, and distance. Small picks from available inventory can move in days; full truck lots or import-linked grades may need longer. Always share your required-on-site date when you request a quote — we answer with availability or a phased delivery plan instead of a guess.

  • Do you supply rebar, welded mesh, and accessories for civil works?

Yes. We support civil contractors with rebar in bundles, welded mesh sheets or rolls where available, and can align deliveries to your pour table. Specify bar mark schedules, lap rules from your structural drawings, and any third-party inspection requirements so we can package documentation accordingly.
